Chamonix

Located in the Haute-Savoie area of France, Chamonix borders Italy and Switzerland and is overlooked by the Aiguilles de Chamonix mountain chain which peaks at the top of Mont Blanc at 4810 metres, making it one of the biggest mountains in Europe.

Chamonix is THE place to go to for a week's ski holiday. The colourful streets are a lively mix of ski shops, restaurants, bars and cafés.

Whilst the main town shares the same name, Chamonix is often used in reference to the whole valley, stretching over 28km from Le Fayet to Switzerland. It is, however, made up of several distinct and charming villages including Servoz, Les Houches, Les Bossons, Les Praz, Les Tines, Argentiere, Montroc, and at the top of the valley: Le Tour.

With the valley floor being quite low, the lifts rise to over 3000 metres and there are loads of runs offering 2000 or more metres of vertical skiing!

Chamonix always offers something different to skiers and boarders, due to the variety of runs on offer and it's that variety on and off the slopes that guarantees to keep you entertained during your holiday.

The Grands Montets snowpark lays just by the Marmottons chairlift that gives you access to it or you can use the slightly faster 4-man chair.

There are a whole host of table-tops, kickers and rails, which can be accessed from the top of the Tabé chair.

For contests, they sometimes have some big kickers located at the bottom but have a look first before jumping them, as coming up short could result in a quick return trip back to blighty!

With the added bonus of a video system, you can swipe in with your ski pass and be filmed as you get air off the various jumps and modules on your way down. At the bottom you can check your line down on the big screen.

There is also some excellent off-piste at Grands Montets, Brevent & Flegere, Le Tour. You'll get up there with a short hike and you can enjoy some lovely powder and great terrain.

For those that visit Chamonix, you'll be blessed with some stunning vista's and the most enjoyable way seeing them is from the mountain top. There really is something for everyone. So visit Chamonix and see what you've been missing!
